In a classroom of young, exceptional learners it is vital that there are designated, well-defined areas for the different content areas. These rugs will create a place for creative play and a place for story time/classroom meetings. The street rug will allow for creative play with blocks and cars. The ABC rug allows students to easily find a space to sit that is not too close to others and creates an quick way for me to gather my class together. The pockets charts and schedule charts will allow me to create an easy to understand visual schedule for my students. When they can understand the routine and what is coming next they feel much safer and more comfortable. This is incredibly important for many students with disabilities.
