Having a new carpet in our classroom would be greatly appreciated! My students gather in front of our classroom while I read aloud to them, engaged in every word I read. They use this space to also read to each other, or for a quiet spot to sprawl out on to cozy up for a good book to read to themselves. We use this carpet area not only for whole group instruction in reading and math, but also for small group learning in these areas. Lastly, this carpet is used for indoor play, for chatting with friends, and as a nice place to sit as they wait for their buses to be called at dismissal. Our classroom carpet is tattered, frayed, and worn - but that comes from years of good use! Our carpet's condition only goes to show that it was well-loved and well used. This area is the quintessential place in our classroom to gather...but it is now time for a new cozy, colorful gathering place.
