There are many resources available through online applications, but we can’t use them unless we have the appropriate devices. We would like to have tablets for small group lessons to give our ESE student access to learning apps.. Apps like free “Emergent Reader”. This app allows you to take images of any text and it will read it aloud to out students who struggle to read the text independently. With the use of the tablets, they will allow our students to independently read on grade level books that match their personal interest and make reading a little less stressful and more FUN. It can be used in all subject areas, even Math and Science. Students can take pictures of their math problems or high level vocabulary science text books and be able to have these facts and information read aloud to them. Many of our students are not yet reading at their grade level, and the ESE reading resources that are available for them to practice reading fluency and comprehension don't always match their interests. Just because they are not yet reading on level, doesn’t mean their text books, interests and self-confidence level do not match their peers. With the uses of the requested technology, our ESE students will be offered more opportunities to practice their comprehension skills with a text they are actually interested in or struggling with independently, thus improving their engagement and improving their self-confidence. We want all of our students to be successful and confident in all areas. It’s our job to insure we teach and give them access to all the tools they need to master their goals and become successful.
