My main goal this year for my classroom is to have a dedicated Makerspace for my students to explore and work together. A Makerspace is a spot somewhere in the classroom where students are free to use manipulatives to create structures or shapes from the world around them. Students will be allowed to work together or on their own and choose what manipulatives they want for that task. In my cart, I have placed a wide variety of tools that they will be able to use in our own Makerspace. From LEGO bricks, to hashtag blocks and robots for coding, the students should be able to find something they enjoy working with. Working together with different materials to create structures will help to build their communication skills, hone in on math concepts and engineering. I will also read books to go along with certain projects and give them free choice days to create their own masterpieces.
