Fourth grade is a time of adventure and fun. Students are becoming more proficient in their reading skills and are allowing books to take them all over the world. As I looked at my bookshelf this summer, I realized that most of the books my students have access to are the same books I read as a student. While Junie B Jones and the Boxcar Kids are fantastic adventure companions, I decided that I want my students to have experiences with real people and events. I looked into different series that could be beneficial for my class, and found that Max Axiom and I Survived books were the way to go because of their connection with the real world. Social studies and science are often placed on the back-burner to other subjects, and I don't want that to happen! While these books are not a supplement for class instruction, they are a way for my students to explore the world from a new perspective.
