Have you ever heard the sound of a ukulele and not smiled? I haven't and none of my students can resist smiling when they hear one too. My students will love accompanying themselves on ukuleles as they sing, play other instruments, and dance in our classroom. Research shows playing a musical instrument improves fine motor skills, memory, and allows musicians to solve problems more effectively and creatively in academic and social settings. Other research shows that learning a musical instrument can help disadvantaged children improve their reading skills. My students will experience strumming and chord changes on a stringed instrument and have a whole lot of fun while learning!
