I want to create a calming, supportive classroom environment for my students so that they can be the best learners that they can be! However, I am a first year teacher, so I need some help with this. We need better lighting to reduce students' anxiety levels, especially those affected by trauma. Our classroom currently only has fluorescent ceiling lights, so light covers and lamps would greatly improve the mood of the room. The floor sweeper will also help keep the room clean with minimal distractions, in addition to encouraging students to take care of the classroom. Students will learn best in an environment that gives them what they need. Currently, my classroom offers no alternative seating options. Many students need to be able to move during academic times - wobbly stools will improve focus and engagement for those students who need extra movement in their day. Research has shown that alternative seating options can increase focus, productivity, and motivation. The small whiteboards will be used during math lessons at the carpet. By using the whiteboards, I can engage all students in mathematical thinking and assess their understanding during a lesson. The whiteboards I have inherited are falling apart, and there aren't enough for all of my students. The whiteboards and markers will help ALL of my students access my math instruction!
