Most of my students come from low-income households and buying all of the school supplies may be a luxury but having a scientific calculator is a necessity. In Chemistry, Physics, and Forensics we use math integrated with science to solve and understand concepts. Most students enjoy science but get down when they find out there can be math involved. In Chemistry, Physics, and Forensics we have to work with really small numbers and really large numbers and we can express these by shorthand using scientific notation. You remember scientific notation right?! These calculators make using scientific notation a breeze! There is not a complicated process to enter the scientific notation but just one simple button! This reduces human error, frustration, and time spent by making scientific calculations easy and not so complicated.
