We are requesting video equipment so students can track and chronicle their first year of high school. Our students live pretty stressful lives. I want some of the coursework to be a stress reliever for them. I want to emulate what students see when they follow Youtubers and influencers, but I want to structure this around empathy, leadership, love, and dreams. These themes drive all of the literature we read in the first year of high school. Each quarter, five teams of students will use their video skills to teach or reteach course material in a way that is appealing to them as well as their peers. Because each quarter has a theme (listed above), their video must incorporate the real-life application of what they have learned from literary and nonfiction texts they have studied throughout the quarter. In the past, I have borrowed all of the equipment I am asking for but found it was hard to get on a consistent basis. Every student was engaged in making these videos. My students enjoyed making and watching their videos so much I want to make it a staple in the course. To expand this project, I intend on creating a platform where students can access all student videos - those that meet standards - follow them, like and offer comments. Critical comments by both the students and myself, allow students to show what they know and review information as much as needed before an exam.
