The modern classroom has a community focus: learning spaces and many classroom supplies are communal. My classroom has tables, not desks, as one of the communal work spaces. Each child has a spot at the table, and the table groups change monthly. This allows collaboration among the students. Learners also need a space of their own to store their materials, both personal and academic. A seat sack allows a student to keep his/her pencil case, current independent reading book, and some required academic materials right at their seat. There are other storage systems around the room to store other academic materials. Seat sacks allow for a little personal space in a busy, community-focused learning space!
