Health Education nationally is going though a large shift currently with what and how students should be learning about themselves, their thoughts and their feelings. Skills-based Health Education is designed to give functional information paired with 7 specific skills to enable students to make healthy choices for a lifetime. Keeping students engaged and curious about their minds and bodies is one of the most important parts of my class. How would you like to learn where your food goes after you eat it, by looking at your own body on a screen? Green screen technology has taken such a leap in the past few years, and educators have been on the leading edge of developing ways of utilizing it in class. I have attempted using tech currently available in our system to start this work but they lack the sharpness and power to work as smoothly as I would need them to. The Macbook Pro and small webcam would enable me to "turn bodies inside out" and show children their body systems in action. Students could also use this equipment to create any number of creative media during our class project based discovery sessions, to help teach their peers about any number of health topics or concerns. I could also take this into the gym and create a large video-delay review station where students and peers can assess physical skills immediately by seeing them on the SMARTboard screen!
