We are a Title 1 school, and with a student body of 3,300 this is a larger class than ever before! Clark Chargers are some of the best and brightest students around, unfortunately due to budget cuts and being a first year teacher, their isn't much to go around in terms of additional funding for classroom supplies and extra technology. I teach Geoscience in a standard classroom, your support for this project would help ensure that each student can see the demonstrations, can participate in discussions, and have access to the necessary supplies to succeed in school! I enjoy project based learning activities, and I love having my students engineer solutions to real world problems! It's much more memorable to draft/draw a water filter design and construct it with various materials than it is to watch a powerpoint on the principles of water filtration. Without a demonstration station, I'm forced to use my desk as the "hub" for all learning. Trying to crowd 30 students around a 4 foot table is challenging, and only a few can see the whole show. Please consider supporting my students and our classroom, budget deficits are no excuse for a compromised learning environment. We would greatly appreciate it, for years to come! Just one example of how these resources would benefit our class is a simple study of excel graphs and data from our experiments; simply highlighting a region of a graph with a cursor doesn't effectively convey the point of what we're looking at. Being able to draw the slope or identify peaks in the data with color coding helps visual learners better understand and "see" the data. Mini white boards would be extremely beneficial for quick assessments and identifying misconceptions on the fly, much faster than filling out a worksheet or scantron.
