My goal is to create a love of reading. Many students who dislike reading, dislike it because of how they've been made to read things they don't like at a pace they aren't comfortable with. As educators, we know that reading is the BEST, and most EFFECTIVE way to learn language and literacy skills. To do this, I would love to implement FVR (Free Voluntary Reading) DAILY in my classes - but to do this I need more materials! I want to create a rich and diverse selection of texts and books for my students to choose from and become engaged by so that they can get lost in the "flow" and forget they are even acquiring language! My favorite thing about being a foreign language educator is the opportunity I am given to enhance and reinforce the students' literacy skills in their native language as well. For me, I learned SO MUCH about English through studying Spanish. My students sometimes struggle with reading comprehension and literacy skills in English, so it is very important to me to show them how FUN and EXCITING reading can be in Spanish so that they learn to seek out reading opportunities in either language that are engaging.
