While reading the novel Refugee by Alan Gratz, students were seeking opportunities to help current day refugees. They initiated a "Warm Clothing Drive," but didn't see the number of donations they wanted. This year, we're going to do something about that. Students will be making warm clothing to donate to local refugee centers. We will need looms and yarn for all students to participate in making warm clothing. This service learning project will teach them skills in research as they learn how to work the loom, resilience as they work hard to complete their projects, and community service as their finished results will be helping others.
