The book "Jack and the Geniuses: At the Bottom of the World" by Bill Nye will be used to help our students learn about the gifted student through character analysis and how they can cope and deal with being identified as gifted while also learning about how STEM can be used to solve mysteries. Through a book study with their peers, students will be able to learn about how others like them have dealt with the myths of gifted and talented students. Students will apply reading strategies such as analyzing characters, plot, and theme all while learning how characters deal with real-life situations. They will also learn about how to use their gifts to apply to solving a mission/STEM challenges through how the characters used their gifts.
