There are new classic activities in STEM/STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) education: bristleBots, scribbleBots, squishy circuits, paper circuits. Even kindergartners can learn simple circuits given materials suited to their physical and mental developmental levels -- think Play Doh + electronics: that's squishy circuits (see the TED talk at https://youtu.be/5M3Dow20KlM). And learning through exploration and inquiry is a valued model in education these days. Can our 5th graders come up with their own design for a scribbleBot without being given explicit instructions? Materials for a possible build will be made available so this is more like a guided inquiry. Help me bring these new classic STEAM activities to an urban school. Some materials can be reused to reach several years of learners and students will be able to take home the paper circuit popup book they create tying STEM to literacy.
