I strive to create a classroom that not only teaches reading and writing, but also encourages the students to think beyond the surface. Every student deserves to have books that will inspire them and challenge them while, at the same time engage them. These books have been chosen with my students in mind. Even reluctant readers enjoy my class when I find books that they can relate to. These books are written about people that are in the same age group of my students, which makes them even more appealing to my students. Another benefit to these books is that they are part of a series, and the author is prolific. I have found that when I introduce a good book in class, the students thirst to read the other books from the same author, especially the other books of the series. This leads them to read more, thus increasing their abilities to read, learn, and grow. Each and every year, one of my goals is to help struggling readers blossom and to challenge advanced readers to reach new heights. My students' interests guide my decision making because engaged students learn more. I believe these books will do just that.
