Our edible garden is flourishing, and we make a lot of compostable waste at school that is simply put in trashcans. As part of our urban environmental science projects, we will use this double barreled composter as a way to turn our natural trash into compost soil for our beautiful edible garden! Rather than waiting months for compost to slowly develop at the bottom of our single bin, which is almost impossible to reach and manage while we continue to add more waste, this double barrel system allows one side to be filled, churned, and broken down, while the other side receives new waste. Then the students can always have access to fresh, useful, and easily accessible compost for our hands-on garden projects.
