This is not the math class you remember from high school! Today’s employers value team skills and brain research tells us that students learn best by talking through their ideas together. So our class spends most of our time working in small groups to build these needed skills. We need flexible seating options that encourage group collaboration and respect these high schoolers as young adults. We have begun to put together the room with donated furniture, lamps, and rugs, but we need more chairs and tables. We also need white boards so students can brainstorm together and display their results. Can you help us put together this dream classroom where students relax their fears, get truly comfortable, and let their abilities soar? Just imagine how much you would have enjoyed this math class experience, and make it happen for some of Hawaii’s neediest but most capable scholars.
