Having a student laptop in our classroom will allow my students to access the internet for various purposes relating to the 5th grade learning content and standards. Students growing up in the 21st century need to be challenged to explore and research concepts in order for them to gain a deeper understanding of the content. One of the main roles that the laptop will serve is providing the students opportunities to research various topics. The topics include, but are not limited to: U.S. government and U.S. Constitution, U.S. states, biographies of important figures throughout history, Native Americans and early settlers, different types of poetry, and science content. In addition, this laptop will allow learners at different stages in their reading to access various audio books to ensure that everyone is receiving access to high-quality reading material. Students will also use the laptop to practice writing 5-paragraph essays and students with fine-motor difficulties will also be able to type short responses to better demonstrate their knowledge. The laptop will also be used to provide additional mathematics support for students, both as an intervention to fill students' learning gaps and as enrichment for the students needing to be challenged. There are many excellent math programs that can be accessed by computer, which this laptop will allow them to do. The students will greatly benefit from having a classroom student laptop readily available at any moment when certain needs or inspirations arise.
