Reading is the foundation of all school subjects. In many classrooms books are either informative or entertaining, but why can't they be both? In Kindergarten, we focus a large portion of our time teaching students phonics and phonemic skills to help them become young readers. Reading encourages creativity and adventure, it helps develop the mind by improving vocabulary/language skills, developing fluency and comprehension. With your help, I will build a classroom library for my students to assist in boosting their confidence and love for reading from the start. This classroom library will enable me to lead small-group guided reading activities and encourage students to explore their new vocabulary through writing activities. Given this opportunity, the educational benefits are endless. I want to create a classroom library that promotes a love for learning and excites students to explore the mysterious places reading can take them. I want to create a library where students can take home books to show off their reading skills to their parents/guardians. My Kindergarten students need leveled books, but they need your help to get them through the door.
