Good art doesn't happen in a void. Sometimes it does, but many times students will need to see something from another artist or culture, then make those ideas their own. Much of the work that is done, especially with the older kids contains content regarding many cultures throughout the world. Or, a student may have an idea that they don't have the art vocabulary to communicate. Oftentimes, we can bring a picture up on the teacher's tablet. However, I am looking to give them something that can stick around for more than a few minutes. Teaching color theory with a black-and-white color wheel, for example can be tricky. Supporting my project will help students push their content knowledge to the next level, and will be used to support students for all nine years that they spend at our school. Supporting the project will also help support students with specific projects, such as digital photography and photo editing. In this unit, 7th Grade students learn about the principles of photography. They then go out and take photos of the campus using digital devices, then bring them back into the classroom for editing. Once the photos are edited, we print them out and critique each other's projects.
