Having lab equipment that is similar to equipment used in professional science labs will enable my students to gain experience they will need for both college and careers. Most of my students are freshmen and they have not had the opportunity to do true science based labs like they would in the field of biology. The experience of using real equipment to learn cannot be replicated, students who are hands-on learners are minds-on learners as well. Having a centrifuge, water bath and micro pipettes will allow my students to work more with DNA . They will be able to delve in to genomics and understand what it takes to work in a science lab. Genomics is a very current science topic and is becoming more and more prevalent in the medical and research fields. I would love to be able to give my students the opportunity to work with DNA and really understand how amazing genes can be.
