In this project, students will receive notebooks, graph paper, planters, soil, and a grow light that helps support the growth of their plant. The notebook and graph paper are basic school supplies that will help student learn, while other materials are to teach students how important they are in our society. Students will learn about the importance of trees in the carbon cycle, making connections to the paper notebooks they use to learn, then apply their knowledge of scientific method and chemistry to grow their own plants to supplement the trees that were sacrificed for their learning. Plants are incorporated into this project because many of the students do come from low-income families and have not had the opportunity to get in touch with nature. According to many studies, individuals who spend more time in nature exhibit less health complications later in life. My hope for this project is to inspire students to appreciate and understand the world that surrounds them!
