Kindergarten is shifting to offer more opportunities to express creativity and imagination through play based learning. The goal of play based learning is to support students in social skill development, communication skills and problem solving when practicing their learning goals. In my class, students have the opportunity for math centers every day. They LOVE to have a game, or hands on activity that reinforces the concepts we are working on with our lesson. The instant math centers can be used by students independently to increase engagement. The translucent shapes and tangrams can be used with our light table to manipulate the shapes in different ways to create art. The math mat will provide a kinesthetic way to practice addition and subtraction skills By helping me to fund this project, you will provide much needed resources for my students to learn important math concepts thru play.
