These book titles will make a difference in the lives of ALL my students! They will be able to choose stories that resemble the lives they lead. They will be able to learn about each other's cultures, hopefully breaking down the biases already created by society. Through group discussions and literature circles, students will not only choose the book that interests them, but they will be able to share each week a breakout verse/paragraph/lesson that stood out to them. Not me. These group activities give the students ownership over what they read. These diverse books will hopefully spark conversations between the different religious and ethnic backgrounds of my students. Each student comes to the table with something special to share, but sometimes their cultural "looks" overshadow their uniqueness. These books will open the doors to cultural differences and show the kids that skin color or religious background does not dictate who someone is. They can look through the appearance of their peers, and see the real person standing before them.
