Students learn best when they feel in control of their learning environment. Having flexible seating makes this possible to ensure every student feels comfortable and gives his or her best in class. It allows them to choose where they would like to sit to feel most comfortable and by whom. It also allows them to change their location as they deem necessary. It also helps build community as students are more likely to share spaces and supplies and not feel territorial, like they may in a traditional classroom setting. Since we are an IB school, one of our goals is to encourage a sense of community amongst our students. Flexible seating will help to encourage that.
