Our students need a comfortable space to access in the classroom when they are overwhelmed with emotions. By creating this mindful space in the classroom, it will provide an opportunity for the student to rest and return to learning. This space will allow the students to gain self awareness, self management and appropriate decision making skills. The Mindful Moment Corner will increase self-regulation (emotional and behavioral regulation) and provide positive behavior supports for the students and the teachers. Introducing this Mindful Moment to each classroom will improve self esteem, increase learning, improve self control and increase positive relationships. Children must learn to differentiate feelings that make themselves and others feel "good" and feelings that make themselves or others feel "not good". Creating a space in the classroom to allow the students to reflect on their feelings will increase healthy coping skills.
