Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make choices that work best for their learning style. When students are asked to work independently they are allowed to choose a location in the classroom that works best for them. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. Also, when I ask my students to gather for our community circle time a carpet makes a great visual for them. This gives them a boundary as to where they should sit, yet still gives them a choice as where to go. Students do not have to question where to sit to be a part of the classroom community.
