Part of our visual art curriculum is that our students work in 3 dimensional media. They will learn a variety of techniques. My students will be using the subtractive method, carving into plaster. My students will choose an emotive word to express in a plaster form (for example if the student chose the word "freedom", they will have to think how they can create an organic form in plaster to represent that word). They will learn different techniques to carve, file and sand their plaster to create a visual form expressing a word they have chosen. They will learn about positive vs. negative space, balance, movement, unity, etc (just to name a few principles of design)
