Having a central meeting area is essential to learning. At desks, students are compartmentalized in their own spaces. A carpet area is where we think and learn together. This carpet will be where students are filled with a love of reading by hearing stories from classic authors such as C.S. Lewis, E.B White, and J.K Rowling. This carpet will be an area where students engage in discussions about lessons, ideas and opinions. This will be where they learn to defend their thinking with facts, listen to the opinions of others with respect, and challenge themselves and classmates to see things from a different point of view. This carpet area will be a place of fun. A place of teamwork, problem solving, building and creating, and working in STEM centers. Just as a kitchen is the heart of a home, this carpet area will be the heart of our classroom- a safe place to gather with our school family.
