Last school year I added a few flexible seating options to my classroom with VERY positive results. My students struggle with learning due to their disabilities, and sometimes they don’t like the idea of coming to my room due to the stigma associated with needing specialized support. However, my students enjoyed learning in my room because of my “special” seats! It was a simple change to the environment that made them excited and happy. I hope to add to my flexible seating options, I’ve selected a few more special seats for my room to accommodate even more learners. I’m asking for three items to add to my flexible seating options. The chair bands proved to be a successful tool that my students with attention challenges loved to use both in my classroom and in their general education classroom - it keeps their feet busy and is an outlet for their physical energy so their minds can be present with learning. The ball chairs are a different style of a yoga ball chair that will provide some sensory input, but will be a more stable option than the ball chairs I currently use because they have a base and a back rest. The wobble stools were a fan favorite last year and are always fought over in my classroom (I currently have 2). I’m hoping to add some more wobble stools for the many students I have who benefit from the core body movement/input these chairs provide. These three additions to my flexible seating menu will benefit more of my students, as there is not a one-size-fits-all option for seating styles in a special education classroom.
