Children tend to hate reading because they feel that they aren’t that great at it. They also don’t have access to many books at home or understand that there are a plethora of different books out there. My students come from different backgrounds but have similar stories. Most of which include no access to reading material. So one might ask how exactly are they supposed to enjoy something they can’t get to? I want them to understand that they can enjoy reading. I want them to understand that there are many different books out there and that every single one isn’t boring. My goal is to change their outlook on their own ability to read as well as help them find joy in it. As a new teacher, my classroom library is very thin. I would love to change that and give my students more access to books!
