With the fiftieth anniversary of the Apollo 11 just passed, it has made many people think about what advancements in aerospace are possible in the next fifty years. In order to make those huge leaps in technology, we need the minds of the future to have the experience and knowledge to take us to places beyond our wildest dreams. It can be very hard for my students to develop a deep understanding of how aerodynamics work with the very limited materials that are available in the traditional classroom. My students will use the materials requested to explore aerodynamics in hands on ways that will help build a new type of thinking and develop that deeper understanding. Using the Engineering Design Process, they will get to design, create, test, and even redesign their own prototype wings, airplanes, and rockets. In addition to gaining the knowledge of aerodynamics they will also develop many important skills such as team work, communication, and perseverance. I can't wait to see how my students are able to use their knowledge gained by using these materials to help their futures take off.
