The clinic tends to be the place where middle school students gravitate to when they need a mental health break. They will use the excuse that they have a fever, headache, paper cut or need feminine products and so on. The supplies will enable our team to assess the students symptoms and also help with diabetic care for students who often have supplies at home but not at school as well as tend to the "frequent flyer" students who come in for all things medical. We are in an area that is budgeted low for clinic supplies. The biggest portion of our budget is used for feminine pads and hall passes that we special order from the school district. This leaves little money to order gloves, band-aids, alcohol swabs, snacks and luxury items like ace wraps and other easy to use bandages. We have several diabetic students whose parents cannot afford to send them with ketone testing strips or glucose tablets for the times that they are experiencing low blood sugar. Our diabetic students will use the ketone strips to check for ketones in their urine when they feel like they are experiencing hyperglycemia symptoms. They will use the glucose tablets to introduce more glucose into their system if they are feeling low blood sugar. The diabetic students also will use the alcohol swabs to cleanse the area they will be injecting their insulin. As a team we will use the gloves for PPE when necessary. The students and teachers will use the band-aids for minor cuts or scratches. All donatiosn will be very appreciated.
