Most of my students struggle with social interactions and making friends. Unstructured times, such as recess and lunch, are especially difficult. They find the most success when they have a specific activity they can share with their peers. Over the years, I have collected hula hoops, tennis rackets, and badminton rackets, which my students have enjoyed. Unfortunately, all of our tennis balls and badminton birdies have disappeared over fences or onto roofs, so I am looking to replace these items. In addition, I would like to add to their equipment by providing them opportunities to have basketballs, volleyballs, and footballs. Our school does provide these items in limited quantities, but the equipment must be checked out by students. Many of my students struggle with the verbal and social skills to do this successfully. Having designated equipment in our classroom would provide my students the opportunity to participate with their peers and engage in healthy activities.
