This project will help create a reading nook in my classroom stocked with formerly banned or challenged books. Comfy pillows, rugs, and bean bags make it an area in the classroom where students will long to go to read. The selection of books all come with their own story as to why they were banned or almost banned to pull students in to reading them! The nook, with the materials selected, can accommodate 6 to 8 students reading at a time. Two can sit comfortably on the bean bags, 4 can sit on or use the pillows as head rests while on the rug, and 2 others if they choose can share products or simply sit on the rug. The books selected are those that have been banned or almost banned in various countries. Although challenged as such, each book has a compelling and challenging story that will move the students to continue reading.
