My students sit at tables in our classroom, not at desks. All textbooks are stored on the bookshelves, and the students need to get up before each subject and get a different text book. This being said, with the COVID pandemic, students are supposed to be social distancing in the classroom. Crates will allow the students to keep their own textbooks next to them in the crates, and they will be the only one touching the book. When we had desks, the desks were always littered with massive amounts of papers and often food ended up in the desks. Crates keep them from having so much stuff. I also had trays on the tables with pencils, markers and colored pencils for all the table to share. We are not able to share now. Each student must have their own things. I work in a Title I school, and the student's parents cannot afford these items. This would help me teach organizational skills to my 6th graders as well. I always buy all the necessary supplies for my class each year, but this is not something that I can afford but I feel it is a necessity to keep my students in their seats and organized.
