WE MOVED! I have a great opportunity to convert an old workroom into a Life Skills Room! Our students love cooking and using food to bring people together! We love making waffles for star students and friends once a month, and snacking on popcorn after a hard day's work. This is not your ordinary classroom! The Living Skills Room will be an ancillary kitchen/classroom for students only supported by their teachers, where they will learn independent living skills. Lessons will be centered around skills most of us take for granted, such as basic kitchen safety, how to make simple nutritious meals, read box labels and warm-up snacks, using measurement tools, food prep, sanitation, and table etiquette. The classroom will be run on a monitored schedule, accessible to the teachers (4) serving this sensitive population and the 25 students with special needs. We want our Life Skills Room to look as much like a real-life kitchen as possible so that students can safely practice skills in a controlled environment and easily generalize those skills beyond the school walls.
