These novels will allow my students to dive into reading in a way that many of them never have before. So many of my students hate reading, but that is only because they do not have access to novels that represent and interest them. I remember being young and not seeing or connecting with a character that resembled me. I want my students to know the limitless amount of diverse authors out there. My students will create book trailers, reviews, artistic representations, and other presentations based on their experience with the novels. I do not want reading to be a punishment for my students but an opportunity to see and experience something new. I always encourage my students to be honest about a reading experience, whether they like the novel or not, they should feel free to discuss it with their peers and me. I want to encourage them to imagine beyond the classroom and to aspire to create something that represents them.
