Online literacy work and testing have become commonplace in today's classrooms. Not only do they allow educators to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students, but they also prepare students with the skills they need for their future careers in our technology-driven world. However, Chromebooks and laptops can only take students so far. In a classroom of upwards of 28 students, programs or tests that involve sound and audio features are ineffective if they become a distraction as each student tries to use those features at the same time. 28 Chromebooks blasting audio recordings at the same time can be both loud and overwhelming in a small classroom setting, especially for students who already have attention difficulties. Because of this, I have chosen to ask for headphones in my classroom for this project. I hope they will allow me and my students to make the most of programs like Lexia and Epic! that contain audio readings and videos so students of all levels can acquire valuable literacy and technology skills--regardless of learning differences. Additionally, online versions of district-mandated and state-mandated testing have audio recordings and videos that require headphones so students can move at their own pace throughout the test--allowing students who are working on audio questions to focus on listening and allowing students who are on reading questions to focus on reading comprehension. These headphones will allow my class to achieve the best test scores possible! As a first-year teacher, I still have a lot of supplies and materials I need to gather to make my classroom a place where every student can learn and achieve. These headphones are one of the first and most important steps to do just that. By donating to our project, you are helping each and every one of my students.
