These books will be added to our classroom library and students will be encouraged to choose one to read for their choice book. Each week, we dedicate class time to reading our choice books, so it is important that students have a wide variety of engaging books to choose from. Research shows that independent reading has one of most significant impacts on reading comprehension, fluency, grammar, writing style, reading stamina, and the list goes on. We believe it is important to allow students time to read for enjoyment, not only so that they can develop literacy skills, but so they are exposed to rich stories that speak to their own experiences and expose them to new or unfamiliar ones.
