Math literacy is the understanding and comprehension of math text and numbers. A math literacy center that has books really helps students with comprehension of specific math topics and skills. Math literacy includes filling in gaps or applying challenges in vocabulary. A math literacy center can offer differentiation and in some cases fix skills in a standard that most students didn’t master at the time it was taught and in the grade when they were suppose to learn it. Math literacy is cross curriculum as well, helping student with their reading. I currently do not have any math books in my classroom.
