A workstation is part of the TEACCH approach which has been used successfully for many years, to teach children with autism. The workstation incorporates structure, routine, visual cues and limits distraction, to develop independence, organisational skills, the concept of finished and the generalisation of skills. This will make a difference in my students learning by allowing them to be more independent with work on their level. In their workstations, they will be able to complete a variety of tasks that focus on academics as well as social goals. The workstations also provide a location with minimal distractions so that my students can focus on their work and not be distracted by their classmates, who often are having a difficult time behaviorally. The bookshelves would serve as dividers that can also house materials that are essential to my students success.
