Students in Title I schools are intelligent, driven and deserve to participate in Advanced Placement classes. Last year was my first year teaching in a lower socioeconomic school and I quickly learned that my students were behind in reading, lacking basic vocabulary, and they did not know how to study. This was not their fault! They had never been pushed to excel in these areas. Now, as they are approaching college, they want to try AP courses in order to earn college credit and experience what college classes will be like. I am asking for your help in providing the tools to create flashcard study guides. My students often feel that reading the textbook and taking Cornell notes is a daunting task. I am going to break down the reading into smaller chunks and require the notes to be taken on flashcards. This is a proven way to make students feel like they can accomplish the task in a reasonable amount of time. In addition, to reading and note-taking my students will simultaneously create these flashcards to study for quizzes, unit tests, and even the big AP Exam at the end of the year. I will allow them to use a certain number of flashcards on each assessment for extra motivation.
