Classroom centers are designed to help students become independent workers, while they learn through self-discovery. They allow teachers to focus on specific skills in the curriculum and differentiate instruction, by allowing the teacher to mold the curriculum to meet the needs of all students. I have also requested a sand table that will serve as my sensory table. A sensory table can be any type of container filled with a tactile medium. All children learn by using their senses. A sensory table in my classroom will improve my students sense of touch and help them perceive their environment correctly. It will also improve their fine motor skills, through exposure to different textures. Sensory tables also help students build socialization skills with their peers.
