Imagine a classroom where all students are comfortable, completely engaged in the lesson, and (dare I say), happy! In high school, this is the mythical unicorn for which teachers endlessly hunt their entire careers. As adults, we know that we retain knowledge when we are most comfortable, and a lot of that comfort comes from having a choice. Having multiple seating options in the classroom allows students to not only sit where they are comfortable, but it also gives them a sense of ownership in the environment, which means they are more invested in their learning. Being able to add these options will allow multiple students to be at ease while actively participating in lessons. It may just seem like “furniture”, but to the students, it’s the difference between just another class to sit through and a classroom in which they can love to learn.
