Video is an extremely valuable tool in the dance studio! Many students have told me that "they hate watching themselves" or that they are "too nervous to see what they look like". I have a small computer and have the ability to video small groups perform, however the students can only see themselves on a small laptop screen. This is difficult when you have a class of 45 students like I do. I find that even though they may be reluctant to watch after they do they are able to pinpoint areas that need refining and even surprise themselves with their unknown successes in sections of the choreography. Having small groups record themselves on tablets will allow them to keep a record of assignments and growth throughout the year. This is extremely valuable to reflections. I will have the ability as a teacher to also comment, project and hold class discussions for student growth.
