A graphing calculator is a staple in any student's mathematical education. However, they are an expensive staple for many families. Whether it be day to day in the class, during the SAT, or for a college placement exam, the TI-84 Plus is accepted as an approved graphing calculator. As a math teacher it is essential that I have a stash of graphing calculators available to lend to my students so that I can teach them how to use them before they enter a high stakes situation like SAT and placement exams. Many things in mathematics can be done by hand, however, a graphing calculator can do them more efficiently and quicker. Students specifically need graphing calculators to create table of values, graphing higher degree functions, see intersection points of multiple functions, and to easily compute probabilities of events and statistical analyses.
