School from home can present it's challenges! Many students in middle class homes have their own bedrooms or can find an extra room in the house that is quiet, an office or family room. My inner city students live in smaller apartments with multiple generations. Most apartment space is public spaces or a bedrooms that sleeps several children in one room. This type of living makes it extremely difficult to find a quiet place with few distractions to concentrate. The last few months of school I saw students with their laptops sitting on steps, at the kitchen table while mom made lunch and their siblings ran around screaming and playing. This project will allow my students to minimize distractions, focus on the task in front of them and have all their necessary materials at hand in their own personalized workspace. It is a personalized trifold board that has pertinent information posted, including their schedule. Once set up it blocks out visual distraction and gives you the feeling of your own personal workspace. For those who won't even have a table to utilize but might find a spot on the floor somewhere I've ordered some laptop work stations. The supply caddy will contain all the materials they will need, including a dry erase pocket, workbooks, writing materials etc. Students can fold it up and grab their caddy to put it away for the night and easily pull it out again for a quick set up the next morning. Please help these children who have more obstacles to overcome be successful in a remote school environment.
